Physical preparation for trekking includes cycling, swimming, jogging and long walks. To ensure the safest experience possible it is generally a good idea to have some form of experience with basic survival skills, first aid, and orienteering when going for extended hikes or staying out overnight. It’s also expected that backpackers leave no trace while enjoying the outdoors. VisitThe Wild Animal Sanctuary, a 720-acre rescue and educational facility located just 30 miles outside of Denver, where more than 350 animals rescued from dire situations now roam free. As new pursuits, often hybrids of prior ones, emerge, they gain their own identities, such as coasteering, canyoning, fastpacking, and plogging. Your training will include mountain rescue, emergency response and water safety instruction. Learn how to market and coordinate your activities, minimize environmental impact and coordinate with agencies who issue permits. Our residence halls offer spectacular views of the two highest mountains in Colorado.
You’ll reach heights of up to 65 feet and get stunning views of the canyon as you fly along nearly a mile of zip line. Lawson Adventure Park & Resort offers a do-it-all package where you can zip line, traverse granite cliffs (thanks to Colorado’s only private via ferrata), roll down the mountain inside a giant ball and finish your adventures by rafting on Clear Creek. You can also spend a night in either cabins or yurts and do it again the following day. It’s time to crank up the adventure on your summer vacation and school breaks! Outdoor Recreation staff will lead a small group of kids on fun, educational adventures each day of the program.
